Research highlights a significant fanbase for Oranje in Indonesia, driven by historical ties between the Netherlands and Indonesia, as well as the influence of former Oranje players with Indonesian heritage, such as Giovanni van Bronckhorst, John Heitinga, Denny Landzaat, and Tijjani Reijnders. Additionally, Oranje’s style of play resonates deeply with Indonesian fans. Notably, Denny Landzaat served as one of the three coaches of TimNas (Indonesia's National Football Team) alongside Patrick Kluivert and Alex Pastoor. Recognizing Indonesia's long-standing support, the KNVB is committed to including Indonesian fans in their new international fan engagement strategy.

Events and Clinics
Since launching their international strategy in 2021, the KNVB
has made significant efforts to engage Indonesian fans. These include creating an Instagram page, @Oranje_Indonesia, featuring content in Bahasa for local supporters, collaborating with local Dutch-Indonesian football players to produce relevant content, and organizing fan events and football clinics
throughout Indonesia.
World Cup 2022
In the lead-up to the 2022 World Cup, the KNVB expanded its efforts with additional activities and locally relevant content for Indonesian fans. These initiatives aimed to inspire Indonesian football enthusiasts to rally behind Oranje during the tournament, reinforcing their role as Indonesia's "second favorite team."
